Perhaps it’s easy to say “Thanks” to those who do so much. Of course, it’s also easy to take the “givers” for granted.
Maryville Church of Christ made sure those who give in the community weren’t forgotten when they hosted a Community Appreciation Dinner at the church on Nov. 6.
The evening began with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Fred Forster, CEO and president of the Blount County Chamber of Commerce. The tribute to Blount community leaders was presented by Dan Chambers, minister at Maryville Church of Christ.
Patriotic and religious religions hymns lifted the spirits of all attending, which was an impressive number. More than 30 representatives from different civic and community organizations were in attendance to be honored by the more than 40 church families to came to the dinner. Dignitaries included U.S. Congressman John J. Duncan Jr., State Senator-elect Doug Overbey and State Representative-elect Dr. Bob Ramsey.
A special tribute was given in honor of recently retired Maryville Fire Chief Ed Mitchell. Joy Bishop and the church Elders wives were in charge of the banquet and also received appreciation for the wonderful evening.
