The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) recently released the list of National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists across the nation. On the list of Semifinalists in the 54th annual National Merit Scholarship program were three Maryville High School Seniors.

Isabel Hubbard - The daughter of Dr. Roger Hubbard and Dr. Elizabeth Hubbard of Maryville. Isabel enjoys rowing with the Maryville Rowing Team and playing the cello in the MHS Orchestra. She has participated in Junior Classical League and the Recycling Club in high school. While her college plans are not certain, she is considering a major in neuroscience, physics, molecular biology or biological engineering.

Garrett Ward -- Son of Sherry and Dan Ward of Louisville. At Maryville High School, Garrett has lettered in Science and is a member of the National Honor Society. His spare time is spent working with Habitat for Humanity, Lost Sheep Ministries and the Religious Understanding Club. At this early date, Garrett is considering applying as a pre-med major to Washington University in St. Louis, Georgetown University and the University of Notre Dame.

Hannah Ross is planning to study engineering in college and will apply to Tennessee Tech, Purdue and Clemson later in the fall. In addition to several academic letters, Hannah was named a Maryville Scholar the past two years and is a member of the National Honor Society. Kathryn Ross and Sidney Jones are her parents.

Semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and are the highest scoring entrants in each state. Approximately 16,000 Semifinalists will advance to the Finalist level and it is from this group that all Merit Scholarship winners will be chosen.
