Townsend Library holds summer reading program

The Mary E. Tippitt Memorial Library in Townsend is holding its annual Summer Reading Program for children ages 3 to 11. The activities will take place from 1to 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 17, 24 and 31. This year’s theme is “Starship Adventure @ Your Library.” David Fields from the Solar System Ambassador’s Program will be the guest on July 10. Bob Becker, weatherman from Channel 6, will be the guest on July 17. A field trip to the Heritage Planetarium is scheduled for July 24. The picnic and awards presentation will take place on July 31 at Townsend City Park. Stop by the library or call 865-448-1441 for more information or to pre-register your child. All children under 6 must be accompanied by an adult.

April’s category for the library’s Research Game was “American Indian Tribe.” The winner was Autumn Myers of Townsend. May’s category is “Fossil.” Children are encouraged to stop by the library for each week’s clue. At the end of the month a winner will be drawn from all correct answers and will receive a prize. After-School Programs will resume in August after school starts.

Beginner computer classes for seniors will continue to be offered on the first Thursday of each month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free classes are one-on-one for one hour and are by appointment only. These classes are offered through a United Way Grant and are taught by Laurie York. Call the library to schedule an appointment.
