This year marks the third annual WDVX High Life Americana Series sponsored by Miller High Life and held at The Shed in Maryville. The line-up covers folk, alternative country, some bluegrass and lots of great music. WDVX and The Shed’s objective is to keep everyone happy with a taste of everything Americana.
This year’s artists each bring their own twist on Americana music. May 31 brings warmer weather and the humorous tunes of Todd Snider. On June 28 one of the most respected living figures in American music, Billy Joe Shaver, will perform. Johnny Cash called him, “his favorite songwriter.”
Then July 12, John Hiatt comes to town. With songs covered by Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Rodney Crowell and Willie Nelson to Buddy Guy, Flaco Jimenez and Ry Cooder it’s clear his great song writing, keen wit, narrative flair and refusal to pen a sloppy or sappy line, is eagerly embraced. Also on July 26 are The Hackensaw Boys who are recognized as one of the most exciting groups on the Americana music scene. Finally, Mary Gauthier will appear on August 16. A great songwriter/storyteller with a killer voice, Gauthier is the perfect end to another great season and she’ll leave folks yearning for more.
