MEDIC announces upcoming May blood drives

Medic Regional Blood Center has a need for all blood types, especially O Positive and O Negative. Blood donation is quick, safe and simple. It takes less than an hour and you never know whose life you will save by giving blood. Be a hometown hero and give blood as soon as possible.

Donors are always welcome at the two MEDIC locations: 1) 1601 Ailor Avenue near downtown Knoxville and 2) 11000 Kingston Pike in Farragut near Pittsburg Paints. And, for donor convenience, community blood drives are also planned.

• May 9, New Midland Plaza, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., Bloodmobile.

• May 9, Wal-Mart--Alcoa, 1030 Hunters Crossing Drive, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Bloodmobile.

• May 14, Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 858 Louisville Road, 2 – 8 p.m., Bloodmobile

All donors must be at least 17 years of age and weigh 110 pounds. Donors will receive a free T-shirt, cholesterol evaluation (no fasting required) and a year’s credit toward Medic’s Blood Coverage Program. This program exempts donors and their IRS dependents from paying blood processing fees for one year if a transfusion is needed except for pre-existing conditions.

Medic Regional Blood Center is a not-for-profit community blood center and the sole provider of blood and blood products for 21 counties and 29 area hospitals.
