Tommy Kerr and the BMS racing team raced twice in a weekend and a combination of mechanical problems and a locked down race track made it seem more like a week than a weekend.
Friday night at North Georgia Speedway a broken power steering hose cost Kerr and the team a good run and produced a 21st place finish.
“There was nothing we could do about Friday night’s power steering hose problems,” said Kerr. “We have a good maintenance program, but it is just one of those things you can’t foresee.”
The Advance Thunder event at Tazewell Speedway ended up being run on Sunday afternoon which produced a locked down one groove racetrack. Kerr qualified 7th, started last in the Fast Dash and ended up starting 12th in the feature and finished eighth.
“Like everyone else, including the series, we did the best we could with a less than perfect situation. An afternoon race and a locked down race track,” said Kerr. “Considering the condition of the track and the way the series sets the field we had a great afternoon.”
As it stands now the Blount Motorsports Team plans to run for the Advance Thunder Series championship as well as other events in the area.
“After looking at what is available in our general area, both series and big event wise, we have decided to run for the Advance Thunder championship,” said team owner Larry Garner. “The Thunder Series schedule will enable us to run a number of the big races in the area as well.”
