Visitors to the Blount County Public Library on Sunday got a preview of the Primary Players’ upcoming production of “James and the Giant Peach” when the young cast members performed selected songs and scenes.
The Primary Players are a Maryville-based theatrical troupe with elementary-aged children as the principal company. Begun in 2004, Primary Players is an all-volunteer organization with the goal of instilling the love of theater in young people. The group, which was formed by Nikki Andrews with co-founder Susan Jones, perform one production a year. “James and the Giant Peach” is the fourth production for the group.
A non-profit organization that charges no fees for children to participate in their productions, Primary Players is combining the play with a little fund raising when the kids take to the stage March 28-30. The group will have a dessert silent auction with a “peachy” theme before each of the three performances.
Primary Players will present “James and the Giant Peach” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 28-29, and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Maryville High School. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children.
John Cherry is the director.
