Experience Your Smokies (EYS) is accepting nominations for the Class of 2008 through Friday, March 28. Experience Your Smokies provides behind-the-scenes educational experiences to the leadership of Blount County.
Nominations can come from anyone in the community, and individuals are encouraged to nominate themselves. Class members commit to six half-day sessions from August through December, as well as participation in one service project. Tuition for the program is $100 per person.
The mission of EYS is to facilitate an appreciation of Great Smoky Mountains National Park and provide opportunities to be engaged in issues of mutual interest. Approximately 230 alumni from throughout Blount County have completed the program since its inception in 2001. The National Park Service provides experts to lead hands-on activities related to such topics as wildlife management, air quality, citizen science and park management.
The Class of 2008 will begin with a kickoff reception in July and ends with a graduation ceremony in January 2009. For application forms, contact Jeanne Hilten at the Smoky Mountain Convention and Visitors Bureau, 865-448-6134.
