The Friends of the Mary E. Tippitt Memorial Library in Townsend will be holding their 9th Annual Golf Tournament on Friday, April 25 at Laurel Valley Golf Club. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and lunch will be provided. Shotgun start is at 1 p.m.
This is one of the library’s major fund-raisers, as all proceeds will be used for operating expenses. The format is ABCD players/team. Cost is $80 per player and prizes will be awarded. The library’s research game has begun. This month’s category is Geographical Location. Children are encouraged to stop by the library for each week’s clue. At the end of the month a winner will be drawn from all correct answers and will receive a prize.
Beginner computer classes for seniors will continue to be offered on the first Thursday of each month from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. The free classes are one-on-one for one hour and are by appointment only. These classes are offered through a United Way grant and are taught by Laurie York. Call the library to schedule an appointment.
The Townsend Book Club meets on the fourth Thursday of every month at 10 a.m. in the library. Call the library at or Sarah Flack at 865-980-2110 for more information.
The Mary Tippitt Library is located at 120 Tiger Drive in Townsend. Hours are Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m., and Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is a drop box by the front door for after-hours returns.
Computer access is available to residents and visitors at no charge. Faxing, printing, and copying services are available for a small fee. Visitors are welcome to check out books and/or videos with a temporary patron number and a refundable $20 deposit.
