Women’s History Month in Blount County will conclude with a celebration honoring the finalists and winner of the AAUW Crystal Award at 6:30 p.m., Monday, March 31 at the Blount County Library, Dorothy Herron Room.
The three finalists are Robin Devereaux, founder of Dream Street Infusion Dancers, Sharon Hannum, community leader, and Patricia S. Thompson, director/founder of the Joshua Resource Center.
The Crystal Award was established in 2004 by the Maryville Branch of the American Association of University Women to honor an individual whose life and work create opportunities for women and girls of Blount County to achieve their greatest potential.
Educators, governmental employees, business and organization leaders, and the community-at-large were invited to nominate individuals who are inspirational because of their efforts on behalf of women and girls. Selection of the finalists was made by an impartial judging committee.
This year’s theme is “Who Inspired You?” Autumn Hall, 2008 Crystal Award Chair, expresses her excitement about this event: “I want the community and young women to recognize that there are role models for them right here. Hearing the stories of these women makes you realize how strong and courageous they are. They really are a source of hope and inspiration.”
The celebration will include refreshments catered by Lisa Williams of Grounded-Coffee & More, and music provided by Camille Crumpton, Harp Ensemble of Maryville High School.
The award will be presented by Claudia Brady, the 2005 award recipient.
The public is invited to this free event. More information is available at www.discoveret.org/aauwmvil.
