Two Blount County community groups recently joined to raise $1,800 to help feed needy seniors throughout the area.
The members of Citizens for Blount County’s Future and Citizens for Good Government collected almost $2,000 for the Mobile Meals program. Volunteers work through the Blount County Community Action Agency to deliver hot meals to needy seniors five days a week, Citizens for Good Government president Jim Folts said.
The two groups raised the money and presented the check to Monty Arnold with Mobile Meals during the holiday season.
Folts said members of both groups wanted to help Mobile Meals because that program helps seniors. “People forget that those are the people who fought World War II and really made it possible for us to enjoy the kinds of things we enjoy now,” he said. “It’s a great program. It’s the kind of thing we ought to be doing more of.”
Citizens for Blount County’s Future president Linda King said her group believed helping seniors through Mobile Meals was the right thing to do.
“They agreed that was what they wanted to do to show we really appreciate what seniors did for us in the past,” she said.
