Shannon Carswell of the Blount County Sheriff’s Office has planned a Bean Supper to help a fellow officer.
Carswell says Gary Hamilton and his wife, Donna, haven’t asked for help, but Carswell said he wanted to do something to let the Hamilton’s know that their community is thinking of them in their time of need. Donna Hamilton has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.
“We call Gary ‘Thumper’ and he has worked in the crime scene for years and does an awesome job,” said Carswell. “Over the years, I have learned so much from him. He is the kind of person that will take the time and show you how to do something or explain why he is doing something, even if it is right in the middle of a bloody crime scene. Recently he learned that his wife, Donna, has an inoperable brain tumor. It is located on the frontal lobe and is cancerous.”
Carswell came up with the idea of the Bean Supper to try and help and let the family know they were being remembered.
“Needless to say there is really nothing any of us can do,” Carswell said. “It makes us feel really helpless. So we have decided to have a Bean Supper and give all the money that is raised to Donna and Thumper.
The supper is Thursday, March 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carpenter’s Elementary School. A $5 ticket includes beans, side item, drink and dessert.
Tickets are available at the door, or in advance from Carswell or the Blount County Assistant Mayor Dave Bennett’s office.
