In recent action by the Maryville Public Building Authority, contractors were selected for pre-construction and construction of three projects for the Maryville City Schools. Johnson and Galyon General Contractors of Knoxville, was given approval to work on the Maryville High School project. Merit Construction Inc., also of Knoxville, was awarded two projects. Merit will join the architectural and project management team as they continue work on renovations needed at several schools, as well as work on the new Intermediate School slated to be built on Sevierville Road.
Seven regional construction firms submitted proposals, which were thoroughly evaluated by project manager Barry Brooke, with Lawler-Wood. After extensive evaluation of each proposal, recommendations for the PBA board to approve were based on many factors, including experience, percent of annual volume, financial strength, and fees.
In other business, the board authorized Richard Harbison to enter into agreements on behalf of the PBA for services such as environmental assessments, geotechnical studies, title searches, appraisals and surveys. This total authorization would not exceed $125,000.
