Maryville Middle wins $5,000 for physical education equipment

FurlWhen Maryville Middle School students return at the end of summer, they’ll be using new equipment in physical education class thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Gopher Sport Physical Education Contest.
Sixteen schools from across the country won grants, but Maryville Middle School was one of only five that was awarded $5,000.
Through the creativity and collaboration of coach David Clark, coach Jay Malone, coach Kristi Dunkel, and coach Cassie Sweeny, Denise Vogado and Chris Dunkel, an essay and video were submitted explaining how new physical education equipment would be utilized in Maryville Middle School physical education classes. Emily Shepherd, eighth grader, and Marley Smith, seventh grader starred in the video. The prize money will be used to purchase equipment for teaching new curriculum in the physical education classes at Maryville Middle School.
Maryville Middle School represents one of 8 percent of middle schools in the United States that provides students with physical education classes everyday. School officials said they were very proud of the physical education department and their continued efforts to provide quality physical education for the students.
