This month’s Health Talk program, “Stroke Prevention,” will be held on Thursday, June 19 from 10-11 a.m. at the Blount Memorial Transitional Care Center at MorningView Village.
Registered nurse Dianne Stanley will present the free program.
Class in session for joint replacement patients
Blount Memorial Hospital’s “Joint School,” an educational program for people scheduled to undergo total joint replacement surgery, is being offered at the hospital during June. The class meets from 12:30-3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, June 25.
Sessions let participants know what to expect during their total joint replacement experience, and information covers all phases from pre-op to full recovery.

Surgeons host surgical weight loss lectures
In June, Blount Memorial Hospital’s ongoing Surgical Weight Loss Lecture Series features two presentations by Blount Memorial surgeons who will discuss the surgical and laparoscopic treatments of obesity including Lap-Band, gastric sleeve and gastric bypass procedures.
Dr. Mark Colquitt and Dr. Jonathan Ray are the speakers at a presentation at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 26 in the Blount Memorial Hospital auditorium. They will also speak at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 19 at the Clarion Inn, located at 5634 Merchants Center Blvd., in Knoxville.

Caregiver consultations offered for seniors
Caregivers can discuss their situations and explore possible strategies and resources at a free one-on-one consultation with a Senior Services representative. For more information, call 865-977-5744.
Two locations available for caregiver support
The Caregiver Support Group at Blount Memorial Hospital meets at two different locations each month. The group meets every Wednesday from 7-8 p.m. on the hospital’s 3-east floor. The group also meets from 10-11 a.m. every first and third Tuesday at the Everett Senior Center at 702 Burchfield St. in Maryville.
The Caregiver Support Group is a free service for any adult who is caring for another adult. There are no membership requirements.

Wellness Center offers Lifeguarding Camp
The Blount Memorial Wellness Center at Springbrook offers the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Camp to youth ages 11-14, Tuesday-Thursday, June 24-26.
The camp is designed to teach the necessary knowledge and skills for becoming a lifeguard, and it is open to both members’ and non-members’ children. Cost is $75 for members, and $105 for non-members.

Good Health Connection offers fashion accessible fashion show
Living with a health limitation doesn’t have to limit your fashion options. Blount Memorial will host Fashion Accessible – A Good Health Connection Fashion Show from noon – 1 p.m. on Monday, June 23, in the Blount Memorial Hospital auditorium.
Fashion Accessible will showcase summer styles designed for comfort, convenience and accessibility.

Chesney is BMH’s June employee of the month
Barbara Chesney is Blount Memorial Hospital’s June employee of the month.
A four-year employee of the hospital, Chesney works as the hospice clinical coordinator for Blount Memorial Palliative Care.
Her supervisor says, “Barbara has demonstrated a long-term commitment to our hospice program and is an extremely conscientious supervisor of others. She possesses strong clinical skills and an awareness of the importance of stewardship of resources. She also mentors staff in regard to the importance of clinical excellence.”
Chesney says the best part of her job is “being part of the development and growth of hospice at Blount Memorial.”
Outside the workplace, the Maryville resident enjoys gardening, bicycling and poetry.
The Compassionate Friends Foothills chapter meets
The Compassionate Friends Foothills Chapter is a support group for parents who have experienced the death of a child at any age and from any cause. The group will meet on Monday, June 23, from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Blount Memorial Hospital auditorium.
