Area 15 Special Olympics of Blount County will hold a Benefit Burger Lunch on June 20 from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. in the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church Maryville. The cost is $5 per person with all the proceeds going to the local program.
“Area 15 Special Olympics serves over 300 youth and adults in Blount County with disabilities. The program, which is open to ages 8 and older, provides a variety of athletic competitions which include power lifting, basketball, swimming, track and field, bowling, roller skating and alpine skiing,” said Cookie Crowson, assistant director for Parks and Recreation and the area director for the Special Olympics program in Blount County.
Crowson said the community has responded to the financial and volunteer needs of Special Olympics for over 20 years. The financial success of this event along with the support of civic, corporate, and private donations provide the necessary funding for the current Special Olympics activities.
