Rockford students recently participated in a “Rockin’ the World” coloring book contest sponsored by Vulcan Materials Co.

Rockford Elementary School is the adopt-a-school for Vulcan’s Midsouth Machine Shop.

Bedeny Lewis, a yard loader operator at the Vulcan Athens quarry, designed the inside of the coloring book. Lewis has been an employee with Vulcan for more than 30 years.

Rose Rummell, procurement specialist Vulcan, said she pitched the idea as a project with their adopt-a-school partner, Rockford Elementary. Rummell went to the art teacher at Rockford to see if he was interested in this project,” she said. “He did the contest among his art classes. We picked two, one for the front and one for the back.”

Student Brianna Brown designed the back cover and received a $25 gift certificate from Wal-Mart. Josh Harper designed the front cover and also received a $25 gift certificate from Wal-Mart.
