John Dalton is the new principal at Townsend Elementary School.
Dalton grew up in Maryville and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in child development and learning from Maryville College. He completed a Master of Science in administration and supervision at Lincoln Memorial University and is enrolled at the University of Tennessee in educational administration and policy studies to advance with a doctoral degree.
Dalton began his education career in 1994 as an interim teacher at Walland Middle School. The following year he moved as a regular hire teacher to Eagleton Elementary School, which was at the time a K-8 school. At the end of the 1997-98 school year, he moved as an assistant principal at Hubbard Elementary School. Beginning in the 1999-2000 school year, Dalton transferred to William Blount High School as an assistant principal and remained there through the 2004-05 school year. Starting in the 2005-06 school year Dalton transferred to the role of an assistant principal at Montvale Elementary School and Friendsville Elementary School. After the opening of Carpenters Elementary School in 2006, he served there as an assistant principal.
“I am so excited to be selected as principal at Townsend Elementary School by Mr. Hord. Townsend Elementary is a great school with an excellent staff and a very supportive community,” Dalton said.
Dalton is married, and he and his wife have a son and a daughter.
