Filling the streets

Last Friday Art Walk continues to grow

Music and art and plenty of fun and fellowship were the order of the evening May 30 during the Last Friday Art Walk in downtown Maryville.

The crowds have continued to grow monthly as more and more people have come to take advantage of the opportunity to see local artists’ work. What’s more, many are also starting to support the artists and are buying their pieces for their own homes. An added benefit to the art walk is that a portion of all proceeds from the art sold at each venue goes to a scholarship fund for deserving art students in the area.

Businesses throughout downtown sponsored receptions for different artists, musicians and dancers. The businesses offered patrons refreshments as they chatted with others and enjoyed the art at the various venues.

From Fine Art Blount’s ArtSpace Gallery to Brackins Blues Club; from the grand opening at Swanks at 100 Court to Razberries Boutique and from Professional Hair Design up to Preservation Plaza and over to Southern Studios Stained Glass, patrons were enjoying great music, tasty hors devours and lively fellowship.

Last Friday Art Walk is organized by the Maryville Arts Coalition and was founded by artist Katie Gamble. It is held free of charge the last Friday of each month from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in downtown Maryville.
