The Remote Area Medical Clinic will be back in Blount County on July 12 and 13 at Heritage Middle School. The clinic needs help from all area medical professionals including opthamologists, optometrists, opticians, dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, RN, EMT and LPN. They also need at least 15 people to help with computer registration for the patients and are asking area restaurants and individuals to help provide meals for the volunteers.
The doors open for patients at 6 a.m. but volunteers are asked to arrive at 5 a.m. for a short training session.
The Remote Area Medical Clinic provides free eye exams and can make glasses on the spot. They also provide dental fillings, cleanings and extractions and general medical care including standard exams, blood screenings, mammography, bone density tests, medication training and diabetes screening. They are an international organization but 80 percent of their work is done in the U.S. This is their third time in Blount County.
