MEDIC continues to see decrease in blood supply

Medic Regional Blood Center continues to see a decline in the number of donors participating in community blood drives. Medic also reports a very low turnout at their two donor locations: downtown, Knoxville and Farragut. “Unfortunately, our donor centers are vacant most every day.” reports Christi Fightmaster, Medic spokesperson. Medic is the only provider of blood and blood products for our area hospitals. “We are the only suppliers for our hospitals and it is imperative that all eligible donors give blood as soon as possible,” Fightmaster encourages.

Medics hosts seven blood drives every day as well as offers two fixed sites. So, that is nine locations each and every day to help make blood donation convenient for donors. The community schedule is as follows:

• August 1, Blount Memorial Hospital, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Inside Auditorium.

• August 2, *Smoky Mountain Harley Davidson, 1820 West Lamar Alexander Parkwy, noon – 7 p.m. *All donors have a chance to win a free one day Harley-Davidson rental.

• August 5, Pennisula Hospital, 2437 Jones Bend Road, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m., Bloodmobile.
