Knoxville native and UT honors graduate Lisa Hood Skinner has been named senior vice president at Ackermann PR.
A professional with 28 years of international communications and marketing experience, Skinner handles the agency’s international accounts and heads up Ackermann’s healthcare strategies group. She formerly was vice president.
Prior to joining Ackermann, Skinner conceived and initiated public relations and advertising programs for clients throughout a half dozen countries scattered about the Pacific Rim and Europe. She was marketing director of two major hospitals, St. Francis Medical Center in Honolulu, and Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Skinner’s U.S. agency experience prior to joining Ackermann PR included regional public relations and advertising efforts for respected national clients such as McDonald’s (on the East Coast) and Kraft General Foods/Oscar Mayer (in Hawaii and Alaska). While in living in Micronesia, she was marketing manager at the Netherlands-based cc Friesland Foremost Foods, was a credit union vice president and owned her own consulting firm, Skinner Communications.
Before moving overseas, she was a news reporter with the Knoxville News-Sentinel and an editor with the University of Tennessee’s Office of University Communications. Both a Roddy and a Bickel scholar, Skinner graduated with high honors from UT’s College of Communications.
Skinner recently rotated off the board of the East Tennessee chapter, Society of Professional Journalists, where she served 11 years and was 2003-2004 board chair. She is a 17-year cast member of SPJ’s annual Front Page Follies show, which raises scholarships for UT Knoxville and Pellissippi State Technical Community College.
Current board positions include the Knoxville Advertising Federation (AIA affiliate) and the Hearing and Speech Foundation of Knoxville.
She also holds memberships with the Public Relations Society of America and the Knoxville Area Medical Group Management Association. A native of South Knoxville, she is married to Steve Skinner, D.V.M., a veterinarian with Beaverbrook Animal Hospital, Powell.
