Summer blood need continues

Medic Regional Blood Center continues to seek eligible donors to help offset the summer blood shortage. All blood types are needed, according to Medic reports. All donors will receive a coupon for a free chicken sandwich, a Tennessee Smokies t-shirt and a chance to win a pair of Smokies home game tickets. Please do your part to ensure a safe community this summer and give blood.

Donors can visit one of two Medic locations: 1601 Ailor Avenue in downtown Knoxville or visit 11000 Kingston Pike in Farragut. Community blood drives are also planned:

• July 25, Alcoa Good Times, 2019 Topside Road, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Bloodmobile.

• July 25, Heritage High School, 3741 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Bloodmobile.

• July 25, Wal-Mart—Alcoa, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Bloodmobile.

All donors will also receive a credit towards Medic’s Family Blood Coverage Program which exempts donors and their IRS dependents from paying blood collection fees at any U.S. hospital if a transfusion is needed. Each additional donation adds another years credit towards your membership.

Medic is the only provider of blood and blood products to 21 counties and 29 area hospitals.
