Arnold scores golden point in title match

The rugby-playing girls of Maryville won the 2008 Tennessee High School Seven’s State Tournament held in Knoxville at Victor Ashe Park last weekend. Playing under the name of the “Justice League,” Maryville rallied for the crown after losing both pool games. In the bracket, however, Maryville beat Powell, 20-17 (4 tries to 3 with one conversion), then tied Karns, 10-10, at which point it went into overtime. Amy Arnold scored the golden point and Maryville won, 15-10, taking the 7’s title. The game is called ‘7’s’ because a team is comprised of seven players instead of the usual 15.

The Justice League will participate in the Priscilla 7’s in Memphis. The Priscilla 7’s is the sister tournament to the Elvis 7’s, held simultaneously, on Aug. 2.
