Work being picketed at hospital complete

In response to ongoing community questions about the presence of Carpenters’ Union picketers at Blount Memorial Hospital, associate administrator and chief operating officer Don Heinemann has confirmed that the work of the sub-contractors in question was completed on March 27.

“The work being picketed has been completed, yet the picketers remain in front of the hospital’s outpatient/emergency department entrance,” Heinemann said. It is the hospital’s understanding that the Tennessee Carpenters Regional Council picketers have been part of an ongoing labor dispute with a sub-contractor that previously was working with the general contractor overseeing work at Blount Memorial.

“At no time was the hospital involved in the dispute or labor discussions,” he added. Since the work’s completion, the sub-contractor has not been at Blount Memorial.

Because picketers continue to remain on campus, hospital officials remind the community that picketers have been asked to respect the needs of its patients and visitors and to refrain from interfering with access to the hospital.
