Special Olympics lunch draws 730 hungry people

The Special Olympics Hamburger Luncheon, held June 20, was such a success that plans are already being put in place to repeat the event next year.

And why not? The event raised $4,000 and fed more than 700 burger lovers.

“This is the beginning,” Area 15 director of Special Olympics Cookie Crowson said. “We start planning next year’s event tomorrow,”

“We put 730 people through the door. After we take care of expenses, we think we’re going to add about $4,000 to our Special Olympics fund. We are so pleased. We had great community support in sponsorships and attendance.”

Crowson said it was a beautiful day for the event at First Baptist Church of Maryville. “The weather worked out super, and we had such good attendance. We’re extremely pleased with the turnout,” she said.
