The banks of the Little River provided the backdrop for a campaign kickoff celebration for State Rep. Doug Overbey, hosted by Bob and Susan Hirche.
Overbey is running for the Tennessee State Senate, 8th district seat, against incumbent Sen. Raymond Finney.
The campaign celebration was early evening on Friday, June 20, at 1012 Hitch Road. The setting was the Hirche’s open field and pavilion. “Join Doug” signs and buttons were plentiful for supporters, and guests were treated to barbecue and all the fixings. Between 200-250 supporters showed up to hear what Overbey had to say about his race for the senate.
“We have always run a clean, first-class campaign,” Overbey told the crowd. “We have some real issues to address in the county. For example, we want to make sure that education is in the forefront of the decisions. We want to insure that Tennessee is the right place for businesses to come with their good jobs and services.”
Overbey is a four-term Republican state representative who has been in the state House for seven years. He is a member of the Finance, Ways and Means Committee, Health and Human Resources Committee, Select Committee on Ethics and Joint Select Committee on Children and Youth. He is chairman of the House Health Care Facilities Subcommittee and a member of the Budget Subcommittee. In 2007, he was elected Secretary of the Joint Study Committee on Long Term Care.
The Republican primary is Aug. 7.
