ACT Productions heats up summer with prize winning comedy

Join ACT Productions this summer as they present Beth Henley’s Pulitzer Prize winning dark comedy, Crimes of the Heart on Fridays and Saturdays, July 11th, 12th, 18th, and 19th at 8 p.m., at the SKIT studio, 507 Ellis Avenue in Maryville.

From its humble beginning at the Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, to the Broadway stage, to a major motion picture (starring Diane Keaton, Sissy Spacek, and Jessica Lange), Crimes of the Heart became a play that ‘restored one’s faith in our theatre-’ NY Magazine.

Directed by Gregg Roberts, the play teems with humanity and humor as it examines the plight of three Mississippi sisters betrayed by their passions. Tackling the roles of the dysfunctional siblings are Lisa Hatmaker as ‘Meg’, Gayle Greene as ‘Lenny’, and Maryville’s own Lea McMahan as ‘Babe’. Rounding out the cast are Laura Champagny, Matt Lawson, and Gregg Roberts as ‘Chick’, ‘Barnette’, and ‘Doc’ respectively. ‘ would certainly be a crime for anyone interested in theatre not to see this play.’ -NY Post.

Tickets are $10 and may be purchased online by visiting or by calling 621-0216. Tickets will also be available for $12 at the door just prior to the performances. Seating is limited.
