Southern Kids in Theater holds production of ‘Les Miserables’

Southern Kids in Theater recently brought the play “Les Miserables” to the stage at Pellissippi State Technical Community College’s performing arts theater in Hardin Valley.

Larry Lonsdale with SKIT said the production was a success. “Opening night was very well taken in regard to amount of people. We had 250. On Saturday, our matinee was very well received, and Saturday night we did another 250 seats out of a 400 seat-capacity theater,” he said.

Lonsdale said there were more than 400 hand-made costumes in the production. “The props were made by professional carpenters who built them from the ground up,” he said. There were more than 35 songs in the performance, and the play was three hours long with a 15-minute intermission, he said.

Next on the ticket for SKIT cast members are “Phantom of the Opera,” “Miracle on 34th Street” and “Alice in Wonderland.” SKIT is also opening up memberships to individuals 19 years and older as part of the new Adult Contemporary Theater program at SKIT. “Our Adult Community Theater is doing “Crimes of the Heart” at in July,” he said.

SKIT is located at 507 Ellis Ave., Maryville. For more information, contact the theater at 865-621-0216.
