Give blood and receive free food

Medic Regional Blood Center has a tasty incentive to help encourage donors to give blood. Now through Labor Day all blood donors will receive a coupon for a free Chick-fil-A sandwich. “There is no purchase necessary to redeem the coupon. We appreciate Chick-fil-A for their generosity,” says Christi Fightmaster, Medic spokesperson. The coupon is for any location in Knoxville, Oak Ridge, Maryville, Alcoa, Sevierville and Morristown.

Medic reports summer donations being down, especially with gas prices being what they are. “We are seeing people not make the extra trip to stop at a location to give blood. We hope incentive items as well as very convenient locations of our bloodmobiles encourage more people to participate in local blood drives. We try our best to have bloodmobiles where donors are already going to be, for example shopping areas,” said Fightmaster.

Donors are welcome to stop by either donors center—1601 Ailor Avenue in downtown Knoxville or visit 11000 Kingston Pike in Farragut. Community blood drives are also planned:

• July 7, Big K-Mart, 945 McCammon Avenue, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Bloodmobile.

• July 8, Fairpark Health Care Center, 804 North Fifth Street, 1p.m. – 6 p.m., Bloodmobile.

• July 10, Monte Vista Baptist Church, 1735 Old Niles Ferry Road, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., inside Fellowship Hall.

All donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh 110 pounds or more and have positive identification
