Creative ideas ranged from spiders to monkeys to tree houses in the Blount County Public Library’s “Edible Book Contest.”
The displays of the entries and winners got lots of looks the week they were only display. Judges marked winners with certificates so the public got to see what had won and vote on their choice for Viewer’s Choice, which was revealed at the awards ceremony on Sunday, June 22. Viewer’s Choice winners – a tie – were “Penguins” by Audrey Barry, and “Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed” by Katheryn Rollins.
The entries had to be 95 percent food products and depict a fictional or nonfictional literary work in the permanent collection of the library. It was open to anyone age 8 or older in three divisions: Adult, Teen and Juvenile. A Professional division was also awarded but did not collect prize money. First, second and third place in each category collected $100, $50 and $25.
Special awards of $100 were also awarded for Creativity, Humor, Judges’ Choice, and Viewer’s Choice.
Prizes were provided by the Friends of the Blount County Library.
