Lee Anne Henry is the owner of Professional Hair Designs and More, a new full-service hair studio and spa in downtown Maryville.

Her shirt says, “I run with scissors,” and that’s just what Lee Anne Henry has been doing since she opened Professional Hair Designs and More, a full-service studio and spa in downtown Maryville.

“It has always been a dream of mine and after 10 years of working for other salons, I’ve taken the knowledge and education I learned along the way and realized it was time to do what I wanted to do the way I wanted to do it,” Henry said. “It was time to allow the dream to become a reality.”

“It’s a God-sent opportunity,” said Vera Henry, the studio’s business manager and LeeAnne’s mother. “She had the need, funds were available, the location was found quickly, and contractors were available. With timing, location and support, everything fell into place. It only took us about 45 days to open.”

A Blount County-native, Henry was attracted to the ongoing revitalization of downtown Maryville. When she discovered the area below Two Doors Down was available, she immediately expressed interest in the location. She said she loves being in the historic district and contributing to the business community and is excited to participate in the Last Friday Art Crawl.

She said her business philosophy is based on creative design, and she strives to be a designer of “wearable art” from head to toe. “If I can make someone feel good about themselves in a 30-minute session, then I have succeeded in my profession. It’s hard work and anyone who doesn’t love it won’t stay with it for long,” she said. “But, work should be fun, and I have a passion for doing hair.”

Henry has a large, loyal customer base, many of whom travel from Knoxville, Powell, Vonore, Sweetwater and Strawberry Plains. “Those are the clients who’ve been coming for eight years or more,” said Vera. “They aren’t just customers,” LeeAnne said. “It’s about building trust and a bond.”

However, Henry’s dream goes beyond the studio and spa. “I want to put together an association for salon owners here in Maryville. This industry is so competitive. I’d like to have a friendly relationship with other salon owners so we can interact, share ideas, help our employees, share education and knowledge and set the pace for a more professional industry,” she said.

Henry said ongoing training is critical, and she makes a point of attending continuing education and training at least two times a year. She’s also looking for like-minded individuals to join her team at Professional Hair Designs and More. She said she has booth rentals available and is looking for “someone who will go to the trainings, wants to be successful and have fun, who won’t let work become routine or boring, who shares my business concept and wants to be part of a team of professionals.”

Professional Hair Designs and More is a full-service studio and spa offering hair care, all chemical services such as highlights, low lights and color, manicures, pedicures, facials, massages, foot detox and hair removal all from licensed professionals.
