The Mary Blount Chapter of the DAR will recognize the 2007-2008 Good Citizens on Saturday, February 9. The following honorees are: Travis Cotten, Alcoa High School; Rebekah Watson, Maryville Christian School; Kelli Raby, Maryville High School and Grant Allard, William Blount High School.
The honorees will receive a certificate of merit, a monetary prize, and a recognition pin for their accomplishments. The essay winner will receive $100, and the essay will be sent to the Appalachian District for the state competition. The state winner will be announced at the TDAR luncheon in May.
Since the 1940s, the Mary Blount Chapter of the DAR has awarded Good Citizen Awards to a single senior from five area high schools. The seniors are chosen based on academic achievement and service to their school and community.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children. DAR members have traced their lineage back to soldiers of the American Revolution.
