Community Chorus begins rehearsals

Rehearsals for the Maryville College Community Chorus Spring Concert will begin Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. at Maryville’s Broadway Methodist Church. They will continue every Tuesday evening throughout the semester.

The Spring Concert is scheduled for April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Maryville’s First Baptist Church.

The chorus, an unauditioned ensemble, is currently asking area singers of high school age and older to join. An audition is not required but participants must be willing to attend rehearsals on a regular basis.

For the April 28 concert, the chorus will join the orchestra at Maryville College, under the direction of Bill Robinson, in a program of opera classics. Featured choruses will include “Anvil Chorus” from I1 trovatore and “Chorus of the Hebrew slaves” from Nabucco, both by Verdi; “Bridal Chorus” from Lohengrin by Wagner; and “Chorus of the Wedding Guests” from Lucia di Lammermoor by Donizetti.

Scores will be available for purchase for an estimated cost of $10 for the series of opera selections.

During the expected two-year construction period of the new Civic Arts Center, the staff at Broadway Methodist Church has invited the chorus to rehearse in the church sanctuary, which is located at 309 Broadway Ave. Parking is available in the lot directly across the street from the church as well as the church lot.
