SKIT Productions schedules auditions for children, adults

Southern Kids in Theatre Performing Arts School is expanding their offerings in 2008 and have scheduled auditions for the Spring 2008 season. SKIT now includes the SKIT children’s theater group, a new adult group and two musical theater groups, ShowKids and Showtappers.

SKIT Productions, Inc., is currently scheduling Season 2008 auditions for principal singers, actors, dancers and ensemble singers on Saturdays, Jan. 12 and Jan. 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at their studio, 507 Ellis Avenue in Maryville. Children ages 8-18 and adults of all ages, even those with little or no experience, are encouraged to audition. Of special need are male performers of all ages.

SKIT is also expanding to form an Adult Community Theatre. Adult performers over the age of 18 are sought for principal, supporting, and ensemble roles in all musicals and plays. All members will perform in productions.

Those auditioning should bring a resume and a recent headshot (photos will not be returned). Different songs that demonstrate vocal ability, acting ability and stage presence should be stylistically prepared, and song selections should be no more than one verse and one chorus in length. Taped accompaniment on CD or singing a cappella will be permitted. Some may be asked to read from a script that will be distributed at the audition, or those auditioning may come prepared with their own monologues of no longer than 2 minutes.

ShowKids

SKIT is also accepting new members for their “ShowKids” 2008 season (formerly known as Show Choir) for children ages 7-18. No experience is necessary. The school will train all members in sight reading, vocalization as a group, dance movements, and polyphonic singing. All Show Kids ensemble members will participate in the opening numbers for all SKIT performances locally and on tour. Classes will be held on Monday evenings from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the studio. Classes begin on Jan. 14 with registration taking place Monday, Jan. 7 from 5 to 7 p.m.

New this season is “Showtappers,” a Broadway-style tap class for ages 10 to adults. Members will receive instruction in tap dance, Level 3 and above. Members who are enrolled in these classes will perform in all tap pieces for SKIT performances locally and on tour. Classes will be held on Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the studio.
