Steve Kaufman, three-time winner of the National Flatpicking Championships, will offer a two day, all level flatpicking guitar workshop Feb. 15 and 16 at the Townsend Visitors Center located at 7906 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway in Townsend. The fee for the two day workshop is $90 per person and enrollment is limited to 20 people.
The workshop will last approximately eight hours. The first session will be Friday, Feb. 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. At this session, Kaufman will get to know each student, answer questions, give pointers and evaluate each student’s strengths and weaknesses. From this information he will tailor Saturday’s session to the group’s needs as well as, cover core picking skills and techniques, repertoire and building blocks for growth. Saturday’s session will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Small groups and some individual attention make this workshop valuable for flatpicking guitarists at all levels of experience.
Steve Kaufman will also be in concert at The Palace Theater on Saturday, Feb. 16. His music covers a broad range of styles, including bluegrass, swing, Irish and Appalachian fiddle tunes and folk and country classics. He has been captivating audiences from California to Austria since 1976 and is a featured performer at many major bluegrass festivals.
