If you’re bored in Blount, you aren’t paying attention. Just ask the writers and photographers at Blount Today.
As our readers know, one of our missions at Blount Today is to share this community with its neighbors, to give a snapshot of the events and happenings all around Blount County. We want you to see yourself, your friends, children, aunts and uncles and classmates on the pages of our paper.
It’s a daunting task. We keep waiting for the slow season! So, pages 34-36 are our true-confessions pages. The confession: We got behind. Each week, something had to “hold” as we balance the number of pages we could offer with our revenue -- something every small business owner will understand! Our paper was plenty “fat,” but each week the number of “holds” kept growing.
When Blount Today editor Lance Coleman and I sat down with the editorial “folder,” which used to be carried in one hand and is now carted around in a tote bag, we had a decision to make: What do we do with the old stuff? After all, we are a newspaper, and typically, events that happened in October were really too old to publish in February.
But we aren’t typical in most ways. We decided just to come clean with our readers and share the photos and events. And, to push the process along, we decided to further partner our website and print by offering you a teaser on these pages and the full array of photographs and information about these events on the website.
We hope you see yourself, your friends and neighbors on our Around Town pages. Now that we’ve cleaned house, so to speak, we hope we’ll be able to keep up with you from here out.
If we can’t, we’ll come back to the confessional.
