When Tim Richardson heard about Tom Tuohy’s Holiday for Hope, he was convinced of two things: One, it was a great idea; and, Two, he wanted Blount County to join in the push to make it global.
Holiday for Hope is a Christmas party for disadvantaged children that started in Chicago as a component of businessman Tom Tuohy’s Dreams for Kids. The holiday party has been a part of the Illinois landscape for several years, but the desire to see it spread picked up speed this year. Richardson, an inspirational speaker and author, heard about it and brought the party to Blount. Children, volunteers, costumed characters and friends gathered at Preservation Plaza, which donated the facilities and refreshments, for a pre-Christmas party. Area businesses made donations so each of the 20-plus children who came received a gift, delivered by Santa himself. Entertainment included songs, dances and readings appropriate to the season.
