Elegant evening

Appalachian’s ‘Nutcracker’ is hit on, off stage

The audience was “wowed.” From the first rise of the curtain to the last sip of punch, the Appalachian Ballet Company delivered a first-class production of their annual “Nutcracker” for a regional audience at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium. On stage, the dancers were elegant, professional and studied, delivering performances that both pleased and impressed the guests.

After the Saturday, Dec. 6, performance, special friends of the ballet were invited to a dessert reception at the auditorium and given a chance to meet and praise the dancers. From the smallest party-goer to the most accomplished prince and Sugarplum Fairy, the dancers were eager for feedback and humble in their acceptance of praise for the show. Looking as elegant off-stage as on, the dancers enjoyed desserts and punch as they greeted patrons, friends and family.
