The November version of Last Friday Art Walk had many of the organizers wondering if anyone would turn out since it was the day after Thanksgiving. They were pleasantly surprised.
“It went well,” Maryville Arts Coalition executive director and event coordinator Katie Gamble said. “This is our first year. We weren’t used to the expectations as far as it being close to the holiday. We had a really good turnout considering it was the day after Thanksgiving,” she said. “We’re looking forward to next year and making it a good tradition where people come out to walk off their turkey and see art.”
The swing band The Streamliners played at the Capitol Theater. “The Capitol Theater was absolutely packed. The Streamliners did a great show, and they were slam packed in there. They are going to play again this month, so we’re excited about that.”
Last Friday Art Walk for December will be Friday, Dec.26, in downtown Maryville. In addition to the Streamliners at the Capitol Theater at 9 p.m., businesses and galleries will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. hosting area artists and offering special events.
