Embarrassing moments are not often life-changing ones, but Candi has a pretty good story.
“We were playing a gig one night, when my husband decided to tell the crowd that we were dating. I held up my hand and said, ‘Yeah he’s dating me alright. You don’t see a ring on this finger.’ Little did I know he was trying to propose in front of about 300 people. I soon ate my words.”
Here is Candi Kagay:
What was your first paying job?
“I worked for Parrott screen printing in Knoxville at age 14 over the summer break. I had to catch the signs as they came off of the conveyor belt. It wasn’t very exciting for a teenager, but it taught me the value of a dollar.”
If you could do one impulsive thing, unrestricted by cost, what would it be?
“I would love to take my entire family on vacation, because we have never been on one together.”
What’s your favorite television or movie quote?
‘“I have two guns - one for each of ya.’ - Doc Holliday from ‘Tombstone,’ one of the most quotable movies in history.”
What are you guilty of?
“Speaking my mind, even when it gets me into trouble.”
What is one thing you have always wanted to do but haven’t?
“Growing up, I always wanted to play college volleyball, but that dream has passed. A more feasible dream now would be to learn to play guitar, which I am working on.”
Do you think there is life on other planets?
“I would like to believe that there is someone else out there sharing this wonderful universe with us.”
What is your favorite material possession?
“My wedding ring. Every time I look at it, I am reminded of the love that I share with my husband.”
What are you reading currently?
“I am still trying to finish the last Harry Potter book, and I realize that is sad.”
Who has been the most influential person in the 20th century?
“I wish I could come up with some intelligent or inspiring answer, but I think Bill Gates has been very influential on our technology. Companies have gone from using simple cash registers to being able to track their entire stock by the simple click of a button. We have phones that can search the Internet, and it is very difficult to go somewhere without seeing that little “Apple” symbol.”
What is one word others often use to describe you and why?
“Fiery. I possess that red-head attitude.”
When you were 5 years old, what did you want to be when you grew up?
“A pediatrician, and I still think about it.”
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
“I would learn to not let the little things get to me.”
What is your passion?
“Volleyball. It’s hard to beat the feeling of blocking a huge hitter that has been killing your team the entire game, or coaching a group of girls who share the same passion.”
With whom, living or dead, would you most like to have a long lunch?
“Jesus. Whether you believe he is the Son of God or not, it would be so incredible to ask him about that particular part of history. Who else would answer the questions better?”
What do you hate?
“Not being able to spend more time with my friends and family.”
What is your all-time favorite movie?
“I am such a movie buff, so this is really difficult. But, if I had to say, then it would probably be ‘Tombstone.’ ”
What is the best book you've ever read?
“The Harry Potter books are my favorite.”
Would you travel in space?
“I would love to see space, but I don’t know if I could handle the G-forces in order to get there.”
If you could go back in time for a week, what time period or year would you visit?
“I never had the opportunity to get to know my grandmother Clara. She died of cancer when I was about 2 years old. I would like to have a relationship with her, even if it is just for a week.”
What character in a book or movie would you most like to be?
“Trinity from ‘The Matrix.’ She’s intelligent, she knows what she wants, she gets the guy, kicks butt and looks fabulous doing it.”
What is the best present you ever received in a box?
“My husband gave me a Peyton Manning Tennessee jersey one year for my birthday. It was a total surprise.”
What is the best advice your mother ever gave you?
“Treat others the way you would want to be treated.”
Did you ever get paddled in school and if so, why?
“I grew up going to a Christian school, and I don’t believe they paddled. However, I did get suspended once or twice.”
Who is your hero?
“My husband is my hero. He pushes me to do things that I never believe I can accomplish.”
What was your first car?
“My first car was a Ford Topaz. Four doors, stick shift, gold, and I have no idea what year it was.”
What’s your favorite all time song?
“ ‘Pour Some Sugar On Me’ by Def Leopard. It takes me back to spending every day as a kid at the skating rink.”
Is the glass half-full or half-empty?
“Unfortunately, I think I am a half-empty person. I tend to focus on the negative and make myself freak out.”
