Reception is Saturday for Alcoa High Football Team

The Alcoa Tornadoes, the 2008 Class-AA state football champion, will be honored Saturday, Dec. 13, at Green Meadow Country Club in Alcoa from 10 a.m. to noon during the original “Sports Page” radio program on WBCR-AM 1470.

Players, their coaches, cheerleaders, school officials, supporters , the media and the public are invited. Sandwiches and soft beverages will be served.

Foothills Bank and Trust and GMCC are co-sponsoring the event.

In addition, the Pokey’s and Sports 2008 Blount County high school football players of the year will be announced and presented plaques.

Alcoa has won 10 football state championships, including the last four, and Maryville High has won 11, including eight in the past 11 years. Walland, a former Blount County high school, won a state title in 1975.
