Maryville Police Citizens Academy taking applications

The Maryville Police Department is taking applications for the 19th session of its Citizen Police Academy scheduled to begin Tuesday, Feb. 10.

The Maryville Citizen Police Academy is an opportunity for area residents to learn about the Maryville Police Department and its programs available to the community. The class will meet one evening per week from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. for 12 weeks.

Police Chief Tony Crisp will introduce participants to the workings of the department. The following weekly sessions will include an overview of the Community Oriented Policing Unit; a tour of the Emergency 9-1-1 Communications Center; the firing range and the Blount County Jail; traffic operations and radar; criminal and crime scene investigation; the K-9 unit and SWAT Team. In addition, ride-along and extra activities will be scheduled.

Applications for the Citizen Police Academy are available at the front desk of the Maryville Police Department headquarters located at the Municipal Center Main Level, 400 West Broadway Avenue or online at www.maryvillegov.com. A criminal background check will be performed prior to choosing participants for the class.
