Porter Elementary student wins Subway Fitness Contest

Ethan Hathcock, a second-grader at Porter Elementary, was awarded the first prize in the Fresh FIT Video and Poster Competition sponsored by Subway Restaurants of Knoxville. The contest was created to raise awareness about the national childhood obesity epidemic and to provide motivation for kids to develop healthy diet and exercise habits.

The winners were announced on Thursday, Nov. 20, during an assembly at Porter Elementary School. Hathcock’s winning submission was a video of himself, his sister, and their father engaging in a variety of games and exercises as well as making healthy food choices at Subway.

Prizes include a $1,000 fitness grant for Porter and $1,000 in Subway cash cards for Ethan.

Students from area schools had been working since early September on their drawings and videos of how they and their families stay fit. Runners-up in the contest were Anna George of Andersonville Elementary and Cierra Davis of Norwood Elementary.
