The Maryville College Youth Chorale is looking for young and talented singers, ages 9 to 14, for a fun and spirited holiday concert.
Auditions for the chorale will begin at 4 p.m., Sept. 2 and Sept. 9 in room 103 of the College’s Bartlett Hall.
The audition will consist of a pitch matching warm-up, echo clapping and singing the first verse of “America.” (Students will not be required to stay the entire time. Those auditioning will sing and then leave when they have finished.)
Martha Robinson, music instructor and choir director at Maryville Intermediate School, is director of the Maryville College Youth Chorale. A national board-certified music teacher and concert pianist, Robinson has taught students from elementary through high school.
“As the director of the Youth Chorale, is it my objective to teach children to achieve high artistic standards through choral singing and performance. An equally important aspect of the Chorale is the nurturing of personal growth, teamwork, responsibility, discipline, self-control and confidence in our children,” she said. “It is my goal to create an environment that fosters the growth of these qualities that will not only help these students to become successful in choral music, but in life.”
Weekly rehearsals will begin 5-6:30 p.m., Sept. 16, and continue every Tuesday in rooms 102 and 103 of Bartlett Hall.
Participation fee is $75 per semester. Scholarships are available.
