Sheriff’s Office accepting applications for Citizen’s Academy

The Blount County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for Class 18 of the Sheriff’s Citizen’s Academy.

Anyone who is interested in applying for the class can access the application on the Sheriff’s Office website at Applications will also be available in the Sheriff’s Office Record’s Department, which is located on the first floor of the Blount County Justice Center. Request an application by mail by calling 273-5110.

The deadline for applying for the upcoming class is August 22, 2008.

Classes will meet every Thursday night beginning Sept. 4 and culminate on Nov. 13 with graduation. Electives will be held on Tuesday nights. Topics include patrol functions, court services, criminal investigations, Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, corrections, Sheriff’s Entry Team, K-9 unit, and the District Attorney General’s Office. Students will also take field trips to the airport, the 911 Communications Center, Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary, and the firearms range.
