32nd annual Scholars Run Road Race set for Aug. 16

The Foothills Striders and Parks & Recreation are sponsoring the 32nd Annual Scholars Run Road Race on Saturday, August 16. The event includes a 5K run and a 1-mile fun run/walk starting at Maryville College’s Cooper Athletic Center.

The 5K race has a course which includes parts of the Maryville College campus and area city streets. Registration is from 6:45 – 7:30 a.m. The 5k run starts at 8 a.m. and the 1-mile fun run/walk starts at 8:05 a.m. The pre-registration fee is $15 until 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, at the Parks & Rec office located at 316 S. Everett High Road, or you may register on-line at www.parksrec.com.

The entry fee on the day of the race will be $18. T-shirts are guaranteed to all pre-registered participants and to all day-of participants while supplies last.

Proceeds from this race fund two annual scholarships for two Blount County students sponsored by the Foothill Striders. All levels of runners/walkers are encouraged to participate. Plaques will be given to the top finishers in the male and female Overall Division and to the top finishers in the male and female Masters Division (age 40 & up). Awards will be given to the top scoring corporate and school team, as well. All Fun Walk participants will receive a ribbon. There will be post-race refreshments and door prize drawings for race participants. This race is the 2nd leg of the Ruby Tuesday Triple Crown of Running.
