The East Tennessee Jazz Society -- next get together, will be held from 4 - 6:30 p.m., Sunday Aug. 10, at the new Swank’s 100 Court Jazz Restaurant and Bar located at the corner of Harper and Court Street in Maryville. Featured will be the popular local jazz legend, and about-to-be member of the Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame, saxophonist Bill Scarlett, along with Tom Johnson on keyboard and saxophone, Taylor Coker, bass and drummer Nolan Nevels. Also featured will be vocalist Nancy D’Andrea. ETJS door charge is $5 for members, $1 for students (ID card please) and $10 for non-members. Oysters to Pearls Womens Conference - will be at First Baptist Church, Maryville, from 8 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug 16. Speaker Mary Southerland will lead 3 sessions on how to successfully face those irritating relationships in our lives and turn them from ikky oysters to beautiful pearls. The day also includes breakout sessions on a variety of topics with leaders from the community and church, including Sherri Gardner Howell, praise and worship with Forever from First Baptist Church Concord, lunch, anddoor prizes.
