Blount Memorial Weight Management Center registered dietitian Heather Pierce now is certified as a diabetes educator by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators.
To qualify to take the certification examination, Pierce had to have at least 1,000 hours of diabetes management teaching experience along with other professional practice experience requirements. To maintain certification, Pierce must complete 75 hours of continued education every five years.
