Wortham wows ’em at sectional pentathlon

Maryville High School’s Ellen Wortham sets sail into the long jump pit at last week’s Blount County Track and Field Championships. The Lady Rebel senior jumped started postseason for county high school athletes with a first-place finish in the Section 1AAA Pentathlon on Monday at Jefferson County High School.

Wortham won the five-event discipline with a combined 3,375 points, taking out wins in the high jump and hurdles. She would finish second in the long jump. Wortham is now a three-time qualifier for the state pentathlon, advancing from sectionals her freshman and junior seasons. She finished third at last season’s event.

Maryville’s Ashley Bridenbaugh finished fourth at the sectional meet, with Lady Rebel teammate Katie Clay ninth.
